So....I am a little late in getting on here in the new year! I am amazed it's already almost March...time has flown and so has life...so much has happened since Christmas and the new year.
In the amazing element, I have a whole new job...same job, same position, but a whole new perspective thanks to a new supervisor. I have been amazingly swamped with work and couldn't get enough. There were days where I wondered why anyone thought it was okay to talk to me, as busy as I was, but it all got done! I love my sticky notes even more now....still no lists...just write the task on a sticky note, do it and throw it in the recycle bucket!! I am on a steady stream of work as well as gaining confidence in what I can get done...It is different after two years of no work to go to making decisions, because someone believes in me and the job I can do (That person isn't me, but I'm getting there! :-) I have a feeling of worth outside of my house now, it's great!!
We bought our son his first car....lucky kiddo...it's so much better looking than my first car! In addition to feeling like super parents for being able to get this for him, I am happy he has a better car than my husband or I did as teens, because it is my goal to give a life to my kids that's as good or better than mine. We gave ourselves good pats on the back for this one...he's a great kid and I'm glad we could do this for him. We're all doing something right :-) It's super nice to have him drive places - I just get to have the backlash of having to listen to his music...ya know, all the years I said "when you drive, you can listen to what you want"...hahaha....not my choice of music now!
I have not renewed my Crossfit membership and am super fine with it...kinda weird, really. I thought I would be a Crossfitter forever. I am back to running and have enjoyed working out with my husband at the gym. I am done with any running longer than 3 or 5 miles right now and pretty sure I am setting my limit to 10 for any long distance. Once I get the steady pace back that I had at 3 miles, I will focus on moving a bit faster. I'm also incorporating my sons in the running gig, but walking with them first. My oldest would be an amazing runner with his long legs, but he just gets too bored with it too fast. My youngest is needing to tone up, so I am being careful with not making this a "have to" and more of a "want to" - so, slow we will go...finding the love for exercise isn't a simple thing!
Oh!! No more Facebook! I deactivated my account and it's awesome...I have no desire to get on there at all. It's weird...all I have to do is sign back in to be on it, but having it deactivated just lets my brain know it's unavailable, I guess? I am on Instagram and looking at my account last night, I have only posted 19 things on there since December 31...so that's great too. Being on Snapchat is more to see what my kiddo is up to, but it's also a little fun...it is nice to be separated from my phone. Text messaging will always be there, of course. Totally beats talking on the phone - one of my least fave things to do!
The bombshell of the year has already occurred though. Last Friday, my husband went to an afternoon movie and when he walked out of the theatre, he had a ton of missed calls and messages from California phone numbers. He instantly knew it wasn't good news. He finally reached someone who told him his best friend, very close to both of us, was killed in a motorcycle accident. Absolutely crushed. James was a friend to anyone he met and we had so many friends with him, because of him and people he became friends with because of us. We met James and then-wife, Mindi in 1994 and despite moving to California in 1999, the friendship and visiting never stopped. James was truly the closest person to a brother Chad has ever had. He was the man that I knew would fly here in a heartbeat to take of me and the boys if anything ever happened to Chad. I have lost that piece of security. It's a horrible loss to us and the world, really. Chad and I will fly to Colorado next week to be with his family, as his mom is too ill to travel to Cali. We plan on having a Texas gathering soon for anyone who knew him - at the Salt Lick - his favorite Texas place to eat, aside from Whataburger - each time he came here. The memories we have with him - 23 years worth have been told a million times and will continue to be told. Our kids have fabulous memories with Uncle James and we know we will never forget a thing about our brother and friend. Framily...the friends who become your family.
Having the goal to continue with this blog, i'll do my best to find a format...maybe...might just be Sandi stuff, might be a lesson, might be encouragement to others that I'm really telling myself - who knows! So there it is - a little bit of catch up done...it's almost lunch time, I forgot mine and I need to get something before I get "hangry" :-)
be safe,
sc
